Relationships can be difficult. You often feel careful not to upset anyone, constantly second-guessing your words, and carrying the weight of other people’s emotions. You may feel like you’re walking on eggshells, stuck in patterns of people-pleasing, or seeking approval just to feel “good enough.” Deep down, you might fear being seen as too much. You’ve learned to silence your needs to keep the peace. You might feel responsible for how others feel and find yourself putting their needs before your own. Maybe you grew up needing to earn love or learned to stay small to feel safe.
If any of this sounds familiar, know that you're not broken and you’re not alone. These patterns are often rooted in trauma, especially from childhood or past relationships. Together, we can start to untangle them. Healing is possible, and it starts by learning to trust yourself again. I am committed to help people thrive and heal from their past traumas.
I’m a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and proud U.S. Army veteran committed to helping adults find balance and healing. I provide evidence-based, compassionate care for anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress-related conditions. My goal is to create a calm, respectful environment where every client—veteran or civilian—feels seen, supported, and understood. I combine medication management with practical coping strategies and therapy-informed guidance to promote lasting well-being.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Miami and my Master’s in Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. With years of experience and a deep commitment to holistic mental health, I help clients connect with their inner strength and create pathways to a fulfilling life.
I’m Remington Vandergriff, LCSW, BCD, CCTP, a medically retired U.S. Army Major, owner of Bonafide Therapeutic Alliance, a virtual-only practice serving clients across TN. With 12+ years of experience, I specialize in men’s mental health, Veteran issues, & LCSW supervision.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practices. I do not provide couples or family therapy.
That said, I believe that true healing comes from a strong therapeutic alliance, not just the treatment model or credentials. My clients often describe feeling at ease, heard, and genuinely understood, which forms the foundation for meaningful change.
Life can feel overwhelming at times and even taking that first step of calling a therapist can seem insurmountable. The stigma of seeking care can be difficult to ignore. Feel free to send a text or email if a call isn't in the cards right now. I've been in that dark cave, and I know the way out, I hope you'll reach out so I can be of aid.
I have worked with clients from ages 3 through 80 and with individuals, couples, and families. With that breadth of experience, very little shocks or surprises me, and I am able to develop an individualized approach for each client, combining therapy modalities that play to my strengths as a counselor and that are helpful for the people I’m working with.
Three principles shape all the counseling I do:

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
